Doug and I have finally completed the retaining wall project (more or less). I should say that we did that with a lot of help from Sean, Bruce, Holly, Lucas, Emory, Roy, Derek, Casey and is there someone else? They each played a part in pulling down the old, and putting up the new. We didn't get a picture of Derek doing the bee dance when the yellow jackets found him. Or did we get a picture of Roy, Doug and the flaming wall of fire when we took out their nest with gasoline and a match. Or all the pile of railroad ties that were hauled out and away. But these pictures give us a good idea of what was and what is now.
Looking down from where the old deckk was.
We kept the old stairs so we could get down to the bottom level
Lots of dirt that had to be moved and the old pond hole that had to be filled
And the old buried fire ring that we had to re dig out and then we had Sean use the cutting torch to cut it in half before we could pull it out with the tractor. Then we filled the hole with gravel to act as a drain for the future.
Transformation--after a lot of dirt moving and sweat, and sore muscles and backs!
Lots of dirt clean up and plantings to go, but I think it looks lots better.
We still have dirt to add behind this wall and let it settle over the winter. Am excited to see the end result. Pavers will be next year after we save some more money. Deck too, and some grass to go over the dirt, run new sprinkler lines, and plantings........More Work!! But for right now we are enjoying looking at result thus far. Yeah!!!
It looks excellent mom. Glad you got so much done this year!
ReplyDeleteThe Meltons are sorry they didn't give much to the process. Kind of useless? It looks great. Really good work.
