The Moral of the Story
So I have to add some to the Carnage on the farm. No Angie, the chickens weren't closed in for the night. We haven't been doing it for months. We haven't seen any signs of varmits, and have attributed that to having dogs around that warn the critters off. Or maybe its just that we have been pure lazy about going outside in the cold and shutting them in. Or.....we could go on and on, of why--but there really is no excuse. We created this carnage by our own lack of dilligence. We know that foxes, raccoons, dogs, etc kill chickens and have had them do it before. It is why we have a chicken coop that can be closed in, why we have them in a pen with chicken wire. But nothing has happened for a long time, and we were beginning to think we didn't need to be that vigilant--the chickens would be safe and fine. We were "lulled into carnal security" to use a scriptural term. So the parallel--I'm sure you could all draw one--Satan works the same way as the fox. He was watching for the opportunity and it appeared and he took advantage of the situation. I really did suffer/feel bad yesterday for the carnage that I created by my lack of vigilance in keeping the chickens safe. Kind of like parents will feel when innocent children fall prey to traps, problems, harm, etc, that they could have prevented. If there is a lesson to be relearned and passed on it is--as parents we have the a great responsibility to give our children's physicall and spiritual safety. We know what we need to do to be vigilant parents. We just need to keep ourselves in that mental state of mind of knowing that Satan is always ready to do a number, and if we do what we are suppose to do then we can guard against a lot of things. Pass this on to the grandchildren and help them to understand how Satan is like "a fox in the hen house" and can do damage when you least expect it. Do the things you need to do in your families to "shut the coop door" and keep those chickens safe. Love ya, Mom
